In 1928, Rev. James Peterson started
having apostolic services in his home.
In three years twenty more people
were baptized. In the 30's the church
started renting the Germania Hall on
6th and Bennett Street in Clintonville.
The building was named the Full
Gospel Mission, but the people still
called the movement "Jim Peterson's
religion".
In the 1940's, the Christus Lutheran
Church came up for sale on 5th Street
and the church family rented it. By
1943 the church had purchased the
property they were renting and
renamed it Clintonville Tabernacle.
By 1952, the church was debt free
and
the name was changed to Clintonville
Apostolic Tabernacle. Forty-five people
were baptized and 43 received the Holy
Ghost, while Fred Scott was pastor and
during Rev. David Fuller's pastorate the
record attendance was 67. While he
was in Clintonville, Pastor John Grant
started a sister church in Shawano. |
While Rev. Ronald Turner was pastor
some city wide events were held. One
was with Rev. Anthony and Mickey
Magnun and another was with Rev.
Doyle Spears. The church continued to
impact the community as it participated
in the Firemen's Festival. The Sotos
arrived in 1988 and a few
years later the church name was
changed to Calvary Apostolic. The
entire church caught Pastor John
Soto's vision of a new building and the
new facility was completed by Easter
Service of 1997. God blessed the
church members and the mortgage
was paid by the fall of 2000. In
2003, the church celebrated seventy-five years of serving the community.
Special services were held to honor the
past pastors and the pillars of the
congregation. We praise God for what
He has done and for what He continues
to do for Calvary Apostolic!
